Caldwell, ID – West Valley Medical Center has awarded five local students with funds earmarked for their healthcare education. Award winners include:
- Shelbi Ferdinand: A Marsing resident, Shelbi is a sophomore at Boise State University majoring in occupational therapy. Awarded $500.
- Shelby Lee: Shelby is a senior at Homedale High School who will be attending East Oregon University this fall. She plans to major in physical therapy. Awarded $500.
- Alessandra Longoria: A Vallivue High School senior, Alessandra will be attending the College of Idaho this fall. She plans to major in Biology/chemistry. Awarded $1,000.
- Rachel Miller: Caldwell resident and Nampa Christian High School senior, Rachel will be attending Northwest Nazarene University this fall. She plans to major in Pre-med/nursing. Awarded $1,000.
- Amanda Peutz: Amanda, a resident of Nyssa, Oregon, is currently a sophomore at Northwest Nazarene University, majoring in nursing. Awarded $1,000.
These scholarships were given to students who attended local high schools in Owyhee and Canyon County, and/or currently reside in the hospital’s service area, and are attending local colleges/universities in Southwest Idaho or Eastern Oregon pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in an allied health care program.
Scholarship criteria focused on academic performance and interest in an allied health field. Students must demonstrate a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher and agree to allow the hospital an opportunity to recruit them for employment upon completion of their degree; however, no work commitment is required.
