CALDWELL, Idaho – Expert surgeons will discuss long-term solutions to acid reflux disease at a free seminar Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Caldwell.

Those who have experienced consistent heartburn, vomiting or pain when swallowing may have acid reflux disease — and are welcome to attend this free event from 6 to 7 p.m. in Kaley Auditorium at West Valley Medical Center.

For more information about the event, call 455-3995. Participants also will be entered into a drawing for a $75 fuel card.

Surgeons Ronald Cornwell, MD, and Ryan Hardy, MD, of Advanced Surgery of Idaho will educate local residents about surgical procedures offered at WVMC that can greatly improve quality of life. The procedures available there include laparoscopic nissen fundoplication and transoral incisionless fundoplication (TIF), the latter of which is offered nowhere else in the Treasure Valley.

Janice Weigold had suffered from progressively worse acid reflux symptoms for eight or nine years before she decided to inquire about acid reflux surgery. The strength of the pills she had been using to control the symptoms had escalated, and she needed them 24-7.

“I could not miss a day, or else I would suffer badly,” she said.

After visiting Dr. Hardy and utilizing the state-of-the-art testing equipment at WVMC, Janice was deemed a good candidate for the TIF procedure. Her

Janice hasn’t experienced acid reflux symptoms since having the procedure five months ago — and she is thrilled to be free from daily acid reflux medication.

“It’s worth it in the end,” Weigold said.
