At West Valley Medical Center, our Junior Volunteer Program is more than just service—it’s an opportunity for young individuals to discover their passions, give back, and grow.
We’re excited to spotlight one of our incredible junior volunteers, Olivia, whose enthusiasm and compassion have made a lasting impact during her time with us.
Why I Chose to Volunteer at West Valley
“I decided to volunteer at West Valley Medical Center to explore my interests in the medical field and to help determine if healthcare is a suitable choice for my future career,” Olivia shared. “I’ve always been interested in healthcare, and this experience has allowed me to truly see how a hospital operates, as well as the responsibilities I would have if I pursue a career in this field.”
My Volunteer Experience
Volunteering has proven to be both meaningful and enjoyable for Olivia. “It has been amazing getting to know people I wouldn’t normally interact with on a daily basis,” she said. “It’s rewarding to serve others and to know that my work is making a difference. I’ve felt so appreciated by everyone, and I love how kind and supportive the team has been.”
Why More Students Should Volunteer
Olivia encourages other students to consider the program—not just those interested in healthcare. “I’ve gained so many skills that will benefit me in the future, including better communication and an appreciation for hard work,” she said. “Even if you’re not planning on going into medicine, you can still grow personally and contribute to your community.”
Along with volunteering, Olivia leads a busy and inspiring life. She’s passionate about her faith, her family, music, nature, pets, books, and theater. She’s also an active member of several school clubs including HOSA – Future Health Professionals of America, Key Club, SMILE, and Theater. “These clubs have helped me explore future career paths, serve my community, and express myself creatively,” she said.
As she reflects on her journey so far, Olivia expressed deep gratitude. “I appreciate all the people who have helped me get to where I am today—especially my family, who always supports me in everything I do," she said. "I’m so thankful for the opportunity to volunteer and give back to my community.”
