Quality and Prevention Update

Renee DeHaas
Director of Patient Safety

Congratulations to the Family Maternity Center for successfully meeting The Joint Commission extension survey criteria for our new NICU II. The specialty surveyor completed a one-day extension survey for the NICU II on Friday, March 30th, identifying areas of opportunity for our facility as well as best practices. Our areas of opportunity included: specialized NICU II order sets, specific admission criteria for NICU II newborns, nursing assessment clarification, interpretive services, and plan-of-care documentation for NICU II care. Our surveyor was impressed with our Infection Prevention practices in and around the NICU II; the knowledge, expertise, and commitment of our NICU II staff; security practices; advanced point-of-care testing; and the cleanliness of the unit.

With our official triennial survey window for The Joint Commission accreditation now open, we can expect a full facility survey any time in the next 18 months. Our last TJC accreditation survey was in October 2016 and in general, they tend to follow their triennial cycle within a focused time frame. We appreciate your continued commitment to providing exceptional, high-quality care to our patients. Your observations while practicing are vital to our success and the safety of our patients. Please reach out to the Quality Department if you have any concerns, comments, or questions.
