2017 Frist Humanitarian National Finalist: Dr. Larry Banta

A two-time nominee, we’re excited to announce that Dr. Banta was recently selected a 2017 national finalist for the Frist Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Banta was nominated for his lifelong work with orphans in Mexico, Haiti, and Kenya, including through his own nonprofit organization, Child Help International. CHI develops orphanages abroad and provides training to local aid workers so they can continue to serve children when the American missionaries move on. Dr. Banta serves as the organization’s medical director and recently returned from outreach missions to orphanages in India and Myanmar.

Locally, Dr. Banta serves as medical director of Hope House, a school and home for children who are emotionally impaired, developmentally disabled or come from disrupted adoptions or dysfunctional families. He has provided counseling for the students, training for the staff and guidance in program development at this home for an admirable 27 years.

Congratulations again to Dr. Banta for this remarkable achievement!

2017 Frist Humanitarian Nominee: Dr. Joe Llenos

Dr. Llenos was nominated by Angie Davis for his work with the Flying Doctors of America, a not-for-profit organization that brings together physicians, dentists, nurses, chiropractors, and other health professionals with non-medical support volunteers for missions around the world. In 2016, Dr. Llenos traveled to Guatemala with FDA to provide assistance for people who otherwise would never receive professional medical care.

“Dr. Llenos is very compassionate about helping those in need,” Angie said in her nomination letter,” he is very deserving of the Frist award.”

2017 Best Places to Work in Healthcare

For a fourth time, West Valley was named among the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare. The 2017 rankings will be announced Sept. 28.

The annual award recognizes outstanding employers in the healthcare industry nationwide that empower employees to perform at their optimum level. Those employees then make a difference by providing patients and customers with the best possible care and services.

Modern Healthcare collects and evaluates information from employers and feedback from employees regarding eight core categories: Leadership and planning; culture and communications; role satisfaction; working environment; relationship with supervisor; training and development; pay and benefits; and overall satisfaction.

Family Medicine Residency Awards

Each year, the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho participants in our Caldwell Rural Training Track vote on the physicians they feel provided exceptional mentorship and educational opportunity. For the 2016-17 year, the residents awarded:

Attending of the Year: Samantha Portenier, MD
