Laboratory inspection

On September 19, 2019 the Laboratory passed its accreditation inspection by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The inspection report stated, “The West Valley Medical Center Lab is a

well-organized and well-run lab with good quality lab service and strong leadership”.

The laboratory was inspected using 20 checklists, with over 700 pages of requirement standards. These standards are in the areas of quality management, safety, proficiency testing, procedure manuals, result reporting, specimen collection and handling, as well as instruments and reagents.  Individual departments within the laboratory include Anatomic Pathology and Cytology, Chemistry and Toxicology, Hematology/Urinalysis, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine and Point of Care Testing, as well as the General Laboratory.

The accreditation period is for two years, with a self-inspection occurring during the off-years.

ePrescribe

Did you know many commercial pharmacies such as Walmart and Sam’s Club are transitioning to “paperless” only narcotic prescriptions in January 2020? Stay ahead of the game by enrolling in ePrescribe at West Valley: ePrescribe allows providers to leave their script pads at the office and gives them tools to transmit medications (controlled substances too!) directly to patients’ pharmacies. It also provides real-time insurance eligibility and formulary checking beneficial to providers and patients alike.
