Q4 Thin Client install

Jay Middleton
Director of IT

In 2018 Capital Division deployed a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) to six facilities in the Richmond Market. Called Roaming Desktop, these VDI sessions allow clinical users to move from workstation to workstation throughout the facility maintaining their open applications including Meditech. This workflow improvement greatly reduces the time to reconnect and reopen desktop applications.

ITG has received extremely positive feedback from both Nursing and Physician staff about the benefits of Roaming Desktop. In Q4 we will begin replacing “gen-share” workstations with thin clients. Testing is already underway and we are excited to leverage this new technology. Here are some more clinical benefits.

  • Mobility – clinical staff have their desktop session follow them around the facility, complete with all open applications.
  • Time Saver – applications remain open, preventing repetitive tasks.
  • Reliability – power outages no longer mean Meditech locks and long reboots. The thin client powers up in an few seconds and the user resumes the previous session.
  • Quick Reconnect – thin client technology reduces the user reconnect time to seconds negating the initial Windows 10 login time of about 1 minute.
  • Support – less physical technical interference. Fast deployment and longer life.

iMobile is coming to West Valley October 28th!
