Welcome, StaRNs!
Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses is here at West Valley Medical Center! The StaRN program helps new graduate nurses transition from nursing school to nursing practice at the bedside. Through a combination of classroom work, skills training, simulation lab, and a clinical preceptorship, these specially trained new grad RNs are able to perform at a higher level Day 1 on their unit. We have a great cohort of eight StaRNs here at WVMC. It was my pleasure to listen to them speak about how valuable this program has been for them. Not only are they feeling more prepared to care for our patients, but are very thankful for WVMC’s commitment to their success through this additional training opportunity.
Laura Aldridge named Med/Surg/Peds director
Laura Alrdidge
RN
I am delighted to announce that Laura Aldridge has accepted the director of Med/Surg/Peds position. Laura has been part of our West Valley family since 2007 when she started as a certified nurse assistant. She completed her BSN, became a part of our float pool, and then took a leadership role as house supervisor. In 2016, she graduated with her master of science in nursing leadership and management. Since mid-July, Laura has supported our Med/Surg/Peds departments in an interim director role. She has helped get needed policies/procedures/education in place for our staff and facilitate needed changes to the staffing matrix.
New DAC starts Nov. 6
I am also pleased to announce that Abigail Murray has accepted our director of Advanced Clinicals role here at West Valley. Abigail comes to us from St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, where she has been the DAC for 3 years. She has lead the charge on CPOE, EBCD, and the Enhanced Surgical Recovery pilot among many other projects for St. David’s and their division. In addition, she comes highly recommended by her COO and CNO during her tenure there. I am looking forward to her expertise and her ability to hit the ground running here with our West Valley staff and providers. Please help me welcome her to our team! Her first day with us will be November 6th.
