Congratulations to all our 2016 Service Award winners. These outstanding employees are true embodiment of our mission, and we’re grateful they choose to give their time and talents to West Valley’s patients, providers and staff.

Great Catch: Teresa Meinburg, CT

This award recognizes one of the year’s Good Safety Catches. Teresa was recognized for realizing that the physician put in the CT on the wrong patient. She called the physician, corrected the order and provided the right treatment to the right patient!

WAWV of the Year – Brandon Roedel, RN Float Pool

Those who "Catch the WAWV" demonstrate a commitment to a positive workplace culture. At WVMC we work together as a team (the "We" in our theme), in an environment of respect for each other, for the best interests of our customers - our patients, physicians, and fellow employees.

The EAG selected Brandon from all the WAWV nominations in 2015. Brandon received several WAWV awards throughout the year – he was described as being able to do the work of 2 people!

MVP – Jen Hubbard, ISC

The MVP Award recognizes an individual who builds and promotes employee engagement in their area. This award recognizes an individual who promotes teamwork, open communication, and collaboration; thereby raising the engagement of their entire department.

Jen was described as the “glue that holds this facility together”, which really is what this award for someone who fosters employee engagement is all about!

MDVP – Russ Beardsley, RN Main OR

The MDVP Award recognizes an individual who builds and promotes physician engagement in their area. This award recognizes someone who promotes teamwork, open communication, and collaboration with physicians.

Russ had multiple nominations describing his commitment to the physicians that he supports in the OR. His passion for his service line shines through to patients and physicians.

Boost – Martha Almeida, Food & Nutrition Services

The Boost Award recognizes those unsung heroes who quietly support our caregivers every day. This award recognizes someone in our support departments who provides exceptional service, expertise and impact to their internal customers.

Martha was recognized for what she does every day to “make our morning” – or for night shift to “make their night” as they head home after work. Martha always has a smile and her enthusiasm in infectious.

Medical Staff Award – Jessica Binder, RN Wound Care

The medical executive committee recognized Jessica for her clinical expertise, effective product stewardship and just being a generally awesome resource for us all.

Star – Brandon Douglass, RN Ortho/Spine

The Star Performance Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to making a difference in the life of every patient they touch. This award recognizes an individual who uses technical skills in their approach to patients, but also makes our patients feel like they were treated as a member of their own family.

Brandon was described as professional, kind, positive, and making patients feel like they are his only patient.

Emerging Leader – Shelley Sanford, Phlebotomy

Emerging Leader Award recognizes exceptional front line leadership within West Valley Medical Center. This award recognizes an outstanding clinical supervisor or department lead who supports their staff through excellent mentorship, coaching, and communication.

Shelley’s nominations described her giving her team a voice, building trust and raising the engagement of the group. She “has won them all over.”

Employee of the Year – Kelly Thomas, RN Med/Surg

The Employee of the Year Award acknowledges outstanding service of an employee who has consistently excelled in his/her work. This award is based on an employee's job performance, devotion to duty, and cooperation. In addition, this staff member exhibits a high level of leadership and collaboration in working with patients, other employees, and our general community.

Kelly had many nominations across different awards and she was recognized for her efforts to drive employee engagement, high quality care, and physician engagement.

Leader of the Year – Tom Foster, Respiratory Therapy

This award recognizes a knowledgeable, inspiring leader who develops a strong vision, well-articulated philosophy, and promotes professional practice and professionalism. This leader communicates expectations, develops leaders, and evolves the department to meet current and anticipated needs and strategic priorities. This leader conveys a strong sense of advocacy and support on behalf of staff and patients.

Tom was described as inspiring, motivating, fun and down to earth. He’s a leader for his department as well as the entire organization with all of his extra duties (like the float, and the kayak, and the salvation army).

We have wonderful people and we are fortunate to have people like this – and all of our nominees – here at West Valley. When you spend this much time at work it’s good to have good people to spend it with, and we are very lucky!!
