Patient experience

I am pleased to share that the 2nd quarter inpatient experience scores are about finalized. Currently West Valley Medical Center is ranked number 12 in all of HCA. A nice increase in raking from 1st quarter (number 58). We are currently at the 81st percentile nationally. I am proud of the work our nurse leaders do rounding on each patient every day to ensure we are forming connections, recognizing staff/providers and ensuring our patients have high quality care.

New education model

The clinical education strategy in HCA has shifted to a centralized model. We are in our first year of centralized education and we are thrilled with the additional resources for our staff and nurses. The centralized clinical education model leverages our size and scale, creates consistent curriculum, and increases the number of expert clinical educators we have readily accessible to West Valley Medical Center.

We now have division level specialty educators for the ED, OR, Women’s, Med/Surg, CCU, BHU and Pediatric services. We have an on sight general educator – Sami Skogsberg, in addition to a market level director – Kirie Brown. The centralized model allows the specialty and general educators more time at the elbow of our bedside staff teaching and less time creating the education. This year we have brought on specialty educators for on-sight training on sedation, post-partum hemorrhage, hospice, ED triage, and Code blue training.
