Antimicrobial Management Program (AMP)

The Antimicrobial Management Program (AMP) committee continues to look at ways to manage proper antibiotic usage. Some feedback we have received centers on providing education to both providers and staff. Targeting the correct antibiotic to the right condition with the right dose and duration is the main objective in antimicrobial stewardship.Appropriate antibiotic usage has been shown to decrease overall antibiotic resistance, decrease C-Diff infections, and reduce overall adverse events.

West Valley continues to lead the Mountain Division in overall antibiotic usage based on the measure of Duration of Treatment (DOT)/1,000 Adjusted Patient Days (APD). I would be glad to e-mail you the specifics on antibiotic use at your request. You can contact me at 208-455-3809 or david.calley@hcahealthcare.com. Thank you for your continued attention in regards to targeting correct antibiotics for specific indications and infections. This has resulted in a very low C-Diff rate in our facility and allowed our Antibiogram to show standard antibiotics are still working well.

We have posted flyers around the facility that includes some facts about MDRO risk, outpatient treatment of Osteomyelitis, and even a little “Test Your Knowledge”. Our goal is to produce these flyers every quarter. Look for upcoming lunch session opportunities that will review case studies on antibiotic usage, resistance, and standards of care.
